The Truth About Cats and Dogs - The Green Credentials of EV

Let’s take Tesla X as a case study. The carbon emissions for the manufacture of Tesla X’s battery have an estimated range of six to fifteen tons for a 100KWh model, with a midpoint of 10.5 tons of carbon emission. And the battery could last for about 200,000 miles. So, let’s drive this Tesla for 200,000 miles. This would require charging the car 760 times. Based on the energy mix in the US, that would result in 30.4 tons of carbon emissions. The total carbon emissions, excluding the body and all other paraphilia of the Tesla X to drive for 200,000 miles, would be 41 tons. The weight of a Tesla X and similar size petrol car, excluding the battery, is more or less the same and hence an assumption that both would be similar in carbon burden to manufacture is reasonable. Considering a modern petrol car of similar size, the UK average carbon emission per mile is about 200 grams. Therefore, driving 200,000 miles would emit about 40 tons. EV cars are undoubtedly attractive, with ...

Global Warming is Our Problem, Not of the Earth.

‘Chemistry and Physics don’t negotiate, but they do balance their own books. […] Nature doesn’t care about our human wishes. Physics and chemistry do not give second chances.’ -           Margaret Atwood   And somehow, I think about how different human wishes, human nature, hopes, and desires are compared to  the laws of nature. If ice can absorb heat from its surroundings, it melts into its own water. The state changes, but the chemistry remains the same.  We can not wish for it to become something else or hope that heating ice would not lead to its melting. We can not say, okay, this time, I forgive you; do not do it again. The issue with global warming is not that it is a problem for the earth; it will find a way to balance itself out.  The average temperature of the planet is currently around 15.5 degrees Celsius. For most of Earth’s history, it was about 10 degrees warmer than the present. Technically, in th...

The Best of the Worst Form...

' Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…'         -Winston Churchill It is hard to disagree with the statement as the underlying premise of the democratic form of government includes: 'Elected'/'Chosen' by the people  Held accountable by the people as the government can be gotten rid of  Media, the fourth pillar, actively works for the people to enable monitoring and accountability. The first rule of anatomy is 'form follows function'. The reason for the wrist bone to be of the shape it is to allow for the wrist's movement as it does.  Functionality defines the form in which nature practices its evolution and adaptation to the environment.  Failure of functionality results in it being replaced by...

Together In Co-operation, We Stand Strong – Natural Evolutionary Process

What is commonly used phrased from the Theory of Evolution, the survival of the fittest, forms the anthem to promote competition. this phrase opaques what is truly the process through which nature achieves it. Nature tells us that to survive in the confines of any given environment, we need to be goal-directed to become fit for purpose, and for that, we need to cooperate.  It is through cooperation that we can grow and protect ourselves against the elements that deliver success on a collective basis. It is through diversity, a basis for a variety of specializations, that can result in efficiency and efficacy, reduced burden on resources and effort, and enhanced life experience. I think we can; all we must do is pay attention. All we have to do is pay attention. The Theory of Evolution forms a cornerstone of the modern science of genetics and modern healthcare offerings—the benefits that accrue range from longevity, relatively improved quality of life, and survivability. What i...

Gravity

The gentle force of gravity, When it gathers within the Sun, Generates unimaginable heat, Initiating nuclear reactions, The most efficient transformation of matter into Heat once more. In turn, the convection currents And the warmth, Metamorphose into radiation. The birth of a photon, A miracle of energitics Prisoned for a hundred thousand years. Before they escape the Sun's boundaries Hurling towards the earth, Only to be captured again by the leaves. Leaves use these weightless prisoners, the photons. To alchemise this energy into matter, food Upon which we feed, Both directly and indirectly, For decades to craft our lived experience. It is to gravity that we owe our existence.

Ephemerels

In whispers soft, mortality's last breath,  Man's free will succumb to the grasp of death.  As mortals, we tremble, our untold fears,  Send prayers as odes to gods for them to hear. Preparing our loved ones for the celestial flight, Two coins in hand, a tariff to Charon, To ferry the souls through Styx's waters thereon. To realms serine, where peace resides. Upon the pyre, their spirits set free,  Released from the burdens of mortality. Or in the earth's embrace, so they find their rest,  In Gaia's arms, forever blessed. Through rites and rituals, our heart seeks release, From the chains of life, so our soul finds peace.  In the face of loss, in that grieving place, Only our shared memories are a saving grace. We hope to leave marks on this earth eternal. As permanent as life’s ephemerals.

In between Equality and InEquality (Economic)

"Everyone is a brother to all, and for the first time, an idea has been realised that has never come to fruition on Earth: true equality.  The communists are baffled and irritated because they have finally achieved their perfect society, but only with the help of a God whom they don't want to believe.  The meritocrats are abashed that they are stuck for eternity in an incentive-less system with a bunch of pinkos. The conservatives have no penniless to disparage; the liberals have no downtrodden to promote.  So God sits on the edge of Her bed and weeps at night, because the only thing everyone can agree upon is that they are all in Hell." - David Eagleman.  These lines are preceded by God debating who is to go to heaven and who to hell and stating that there is goodness in all. It is not easy to paint one as good and the other as evil. In Her generosity, She decides to grant everyone a place in Heaven. Absolute equality doesn't work in my view,  as it take...

Time - A Matter of Perspective?

The experience of time is not fixed and is an immutable entity. Even in the case of humans, we embody time on multiple scales at any given moment. The circadian rhythm tells us the sleep and waking time, ultradian rhythm, the timing of sleep stages, and milliseconds that the brain necessarily has to clock, which is crucial for motor control and speech. There is the 'normal' time, which we measure in hours, minutes, days, weeks, months, and  years.  For the part of the brain that participates in speech, time longer than a millisecond is inconceivable as it wouldn't know anything other than its internal clock exists.  The feeling of time varies; we feel like waiting to see the paint dry or sometimes accomplishing many things within a short period. Within ourselves, we carry multiple perspectives and points of view over time. Light, having a dual nature, is also considered a massless particle. A photon is emitted from the surface of the sun, travelling at 300k km/sec before ...
